The 1986 animated cult classic "Transformers: The Movie" is returning to cinemas in 4K on 17 September, thanks to a re-release from Fathom Entertainment in partnership with Hasbro. The screening, announced at Comic-Con alongside a new trailer, will include a newly created post-credits sequence and other exclusive additions not in the original film. The re-release forms part of Hasbro's year-long "Apology Tour" campaign, which acknowledges long-standing fan grievances over the death of Optimus Prime in the original picture.

Tickets go on sale on 7 August, with the re-release confirmed for the UK and Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Mexico and Germany, with further markets to be announced. The Nelson Shin-directed film featured the voices of Orson Welles, Robert Stack and Leonard Nimoy, and originally earned $5.8 million at the North American box office. A companion soundtrack reissue, including a new single featuring Sebastian Bach, is already available on streaming and vinyl ahead of the theatrical run.
