Tree crushes car on Sheffield road as Storm Boelo leaves its mark – The Star

Storm Boelo brought strong winds and intermittent rain to Sheffield, where a beech tree fell onto a grey Audi on Union Road in Nether Edge. The storm also brought down trees elsewhere in the city and caused power cuts, showing how high winds disrupted local roads and homes.

Northern Powergrid reported almost 300 homes without electricity in the S20 area, including Beighton and around Crystal Peaks, after outages began at about 2pm on Sunday. Trees also fell in Hillsborough Park and on Psalter Lane. South Yorkshire was near the southern edge of the wind warning, while gusts of up to 80mph were forecast further north; in Scotland, a 60-year-old man died after being struck by a tree.
