Tributes have been paid to Hector Patmore, a 45-year-old Anglican priest and theology professor at KU Leuven University in Belgium, who died after falling while hillwalking on Skye. He was reported missing after failing to return to his accommodation on Sunday, and his body was found in the Cuillin mountain range the following afternoon by Skye Mountain Rescue Team members, with no suspicious circumstances suspected. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief at KU Leuven, where colleagues held a moment of reflection and set up a mourning register for his family.

Professor Patmore had been attempting to climb Sgurr Na Banachdich, a 3,166ft peak, before descending via Coire Na Banachdich in atrocious weather, with rescuers describing 45mph winds and constant rain as "real survival conditions". More than 20 volunteers across several mountain rescue teams searched for him before his body was found at the foot of steep terrain, having taken an unsurvivable fall while slightly off route. Originally from Wokingham, Berkshire, he studied at Durham and Oxford before holding academic posts including a Cardiff University lectureship, and had taught the Bible at KU Leuven since 2019.
