Trump-backed World Liberty Financial launches WLFI token buyback program
World Liberty Financial has launched a buyback programme for its WLFI governance token, aiming to support participation in project decisions and increase the voting influence of long-term holders. The move follows a sharp fall in the token after the Republican Party’s weaker-than-expected performance in the US midterm elections.
The company said initial funding could include revenue from reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin, as well as other sources, and that buybacks may become an ongoing part of its strategy. WLFI has fallen about 10 per cent since the vote and more than 60 per cent this year. The venture was co-founded in 2024 by Donald Trump, his three sons and partners; the Trump family owns 38 per cent and earns money from sales or use of its tokens.
