Trump beats Wilson to clinch second Shanghai crown

BBC Sport ·

World number one Judd Trump beat Kyren Wilson 11-6 in the final to win the Shanghai Masters for the second time, having also triumphed at the event in 2024. The 36-year-old opened up a 7-3 lead in the first session before Wilson, who won the title in 2025, fought back to trail 8-6, but Trump pulled away to seal victory and claim the season's first major title.

Trump's win, aided by breaks including 73, 62 and a clearance of 67, earned him £210,000, while runner-up Wilson took home £105,000 despite a fine 134 clearance to keep his hopes alive late on. The non-ranking but lucrative tournament featured 24 players, and marked Trump's first event since a shock last-16 exit at the World Championship in April; he beat Barry Hawkins, John Higgins and reigning world champion Wu Yize en route to the final. Attention now turns to the China Open in Taiyuan from 8-16 August, the season's first ranking event, where Trump faces Noppon Saengkham and Wilson takes on Aaron Hill.
