A new Quinnipiac University poll found President Trump’s approval rating at a record low of 32 per cent, with 58 per cent disapproving. His support among Republicans fell from 85 per cent in June to 76 per cent, while independent voters remained strongly negative, a development that could complicate Republican prospects in the midterm elections.

The poll, conducted among 963 registered voters from 23 to 27 July, found 60 per cent opposed US military action against Iran and 74 per cent opposed sending ground troops. Voters also reported economic pessimism: 59 per cent said the economy was worsening, 49 per cent said they were financially worse off than a year earlier, and Democrats led Republicans by 48 per cent to 41 per cent in a hypothetical House vote.
