US President Donald Trump met with Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodríguez at the UN General Assembly in their first face-to-face meeting since Maduro's capture by US forces. The meeting, attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, signals US backing for the new Venezuelan government and represents a significant shift in diplomatic relations following the military intervention that led to Maduro's seizure and imprisonment in New York.

Rodríguez's government has signed an oil agreement granting US control over more than 65 billion barrels—more than a fifth of Venezuela's reserves—with a US-led company receiving 100-year concessions over 17 oilfields. Trump claimed that the US and Venezuela now control over 60% of the world's oil supply. Rodríguez, who previously served as Maduro's vice-president and was sanctioned by the US in 2018, had her sanctions lifted in April 2024 before being sworn in by Venezuela's National Assembly days after the US raid with White House approval.
