Trump names Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff

The newly reported context around Stephen Miller’s appointment highlights his outspoken support for President Donald Trump’s hard-line immigration policies and his attacks on political opponents. Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, becoming Trump’s top aide as the administration faces a Congress controlled by Democrats after Republican losses in the midterm elections.

The 41-year-old joined Trump’s 2016 campaign as a speechwriter and has served as deputy chief of staff. Trump called him one of his most trusted advisers and praised Wiles, who is moving to the Trump political operation after describing her White House service as the honour of a lifetime. Miller has also defended the administration’s foreign policy and promoted unsubstantiated claims of election fraud in California and Alaska.
