President Donald Trump has nominated Danielle Thumann, a senior counsel to Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr, to become an FCC commissioner. If confirmed by the Senate, her appointment would give Republicans a 3–1 majority on the agency, strengthening their influence over significant broadcasting, telecommunications and media regulation decisions.

Thumann was nominated for a five-year term beginning on 1 July 2024. The three current commissioners are Republicans Carr and Olivia Trusty, and Democrat Anna Gomez, with one seat vacant; Thumann has previously advised Carr, worked for telecoms infrastructure company Crown Castle, and practised as a communications lawyer. Her nomination comes as the FCC considers contentious matters including ending the 39% national television ownership cap, reviewing licences for Disney-owned ABC stations, and examining whether “The View” qualifies for an equal-time exemption.
