President Donald Trump has launched the Freedom Haulers Initiative, an administration programme intended to help military veterans move more quickly into trucking jobs. The initiative matters because it links veterans’ existing driving experience to a sector that relies on qualified commercial drivers, while forming part of the administration’s wider focus on commercial-driver enforcement.

The programme is designed to streamline commercial driver’s licence (CDL) licensing for veterans with relevant military driving experience. Fox News reported that the administration presented it alongside efforts to remove illegal immigrant commercial drivers from US roads.
