President Donald Trump reportedly rejected a proposed seven-day ceasefire with Iran, despite an offer for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks. The US would have lifted its blockade of Iranian ports under the proposal, but Trump is said to oppose ending the maritime blockade and believes further military action may be necessary.

According to reports, Trump has told aides that US bombing could resume after November’s midterm elections, although the form and timing of any renewed strikes remain unclear. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the proposal’s initial measures would take four to five days, with the strait reopening on the sixth day and negotiations restarting on the seventh; Trump has also warned that Iran could face “annihilation” if no agreement ends the war.
