President Donald Trump’s administration will impose tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trading partners, citing their alleged failure to enforce bans on goods made with forced labour. The move replaces temporary worldwide tariffs that expire on Friday and keeps broad US import taxes in place, with potential consequences for trade relations, businesses and consumer prices.

Most affected partners, including China and Vietnam, face a 12.5% rate, while 17 countries—including the UK, Canada and Mexico—will pay 10%; the EU will face charges bringing its overall rate to 10% or 12.5%. Oil, gas, fertiliser, some USMCA-compliant goods and products already covered by sector-specific tariffs are exempt; the policy uses Section 301 authority after the Supreme Court struck down earlier tariffs imposed under emergency powers.
