Trumpeter Dr Jesse McGuire returned to Chase Field to perform the US national anthem during the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 25th-anniversary celebration of their 2001 World Series triumph. When his trumpet malfunctioned at the start, the 68-year-old seamlessly continued by singing, turning a potential mishap into a memorable moment that earned a standing ovation.

McGuire had performed during the Diamondbacks’ 2001 postseason and was awarded a World Series ring, having also played for three US presidents and served as lead trumpeter for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. He later sang “God Bless America” during the seventh inning, while Arizona eventually defeated the New York Yankees 2–1 through Pavin Smith’s two-run, ninth-inning home run.
