Trump’s not on the ballot but swing state voters still cast ballots with MAGA in mind
Pennsylvania voters interviewed ahead of the midterm elections said opposition to President Donald Trump and his agenda was motivating them to vote for Democratic candidates. Several said they did not trust Democrats, but felt Republicans had worsened conditions or were failing to check Trump, and wanted to change the country’s direction.
Voters mentioned rising costs, immigration, Ukraine, the Kennedy Center and corruption among their concerns. Some attributed inflation under Joe Biden partly to the response to COVID-19, while arguing that prices had since risen further. Pennsylvania is a battleground in the fight for control of Congress; a Democratic win in either chamber could make it harder for Trump to advance his agenda.
In short
- Some Pennsylvania voters plan to vote Democrat to oppose Trump.
- Many say they remain sceptical of Democrats.
- Pennsylvania could help decide control of Congress.
