Tucson grandmother who beat cancer twice killed in alleged attack by felon at apartment

Fox News · 3 hours ago

A 61-year-old Tucson grandmother, Susan Gehrke, has died four days after allegedly being attacked by a convicted felon outside her apartment complex. Police say the assault occurred on 24 July, and Gehrke, who had twice survived cancer, succumbed to her injuries days later, prompting authorities to upgrade the charges against her alleged attacker.

Dahseir Edward Jefferson, 27, was arrested four days after the attack and initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Following Gehrke's death, the Tucson Police Department amended the charges to second-degree murder, and Jefferson is currently being held on a $650,000 bond.
