TV stars to marry in chapel home after proposal ‘on Welsh soil’

BBC Entertainment ·

Great Pottery Throw Down judge Keith Brymer Jones and actor Marj Hogarth plan to marry in their home, a former chapel in Pwllheli, after he proposed during a show in Cardiff. Jones said he wanted to ask Hogarth to marry him “on Welsh soil”, reflecting his Welsh family roots and his connection to the country.

The couple bought the 163-year-old, Grade II-listed Capel Salem and its adjoining Sunday school in 2022; the 8,500 sq ft building is being converted into their home, a pottery studio and a community space. About halfway through the renovations, they are repairing the main chapel’s roof and hope to open it as an exhibition and performance venue next year, while recruiting local apprentices. They also want the building’s renewal to help address the number of derelict chapels in Wales.

In short

  • Keith Brymer Jones proposed to Marj Hogarth in Cardiff.
  • They plan to marry in their Pwllheli chapel home next May.
  • The restored chapel could become a community arts venue.
