Collider ·

Twilight has returned to Netflix’s US charts as Halloween approaches, showing that the 2008 film still draws viewers nearly 18 years after its release. Its rain-soaked setting and romance threaded with danger make it a fitting October rewatch.

The film ranked sixth on Netflix’s US weekly movie chart for 12–18 October, its seventh appearance on that list, and seventh on the US daily chart on 23 October. All five films in the saga returned to Netflix on 1 October, letting subscribers watch the story through both parts of Breaking Dawn; Netflix has also ordered an animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun.

In short

  • Twilight ranked sixth on Netflix’s US weekly movie chart.
  • It made its seventh appearance on the weekly list.
  • The full five-film saga returned to Netflix on 1 October.

Explained simply

Twilight is a 2008 romantic fantasy film based on the first novel in Stephenie Meyer’s book series. It follows Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to the rainy town of Forks, Washington, and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a classmate who is a vampire.

The story centres on Bella and Edward’s relationship and the risks that come with Edward’s secret. Its mix of romance, supernatural themes and a gloomy setting helped establish a series of five films, with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the lead roles.

Stephenie Meyer later retold the story from Edward’s point of view in Midnight Sun. The film series and the planned animated adaptation draw on the same fictional world, keeping the story available to new audiences in different forms.
