Two British women die in minibus crash during Romania dog rescue mission
Two British charity volunteers, Allison Condon, 61, and Rachael Harvey-Purkiss, 41, died in Romania while transporting abandoned dogs for UK-based charity Homeward Bound. Their minibus collided with two lorries and a van, killing eight dogs and prompting tributes describing the women as “two rare diamonds”.
The crash occurred at about 11am on Thursday on the DN6 national road in western Romania, near the Serbian border. Police sources reportedly said the minibus veered onto the wrong side of the road before hitting an HGV head-on and becoming trapped between two lorries; a 60-year-old man and one lorry driver were also injured, while police continue investigating.
