Two men have appeared before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder and violent disorder following several days of violence in the Page Hall area of Sheffield. The case matters because police have described a serious threat to public safety, maintaining an increased presence and emergency stop-and-search powers in the suburb.

Bartolomej Mizigar, 38, and Jan Mizigar, 21, were arrested after reports of a collision and assault at a petrol station on Owler Lane; Bartolomej Mizigar also faces dangerous driving and no-insurance charges. Seven people have been arrested over disorder on 3 and 4 August, during which a woman required hospital treatment and two men were seriously injured; police have seized 50 weapons and conducted about 130 searches under Section 60 powers.
