Kemi Badenoch is set to carry out a major reshuffle of her shadow cabinet this week, with shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel and shadow chancellor Sir Mel Stride both reportedly at risk of being moved out. The overhaul was triggered by Sir James Cleverly's decision to quit as shadow housing secretary to run for London mayor, but Badenoch, who had previously said she would not reshuffle her top team, is now expected to use the opportunity for a wider shake-up ahead of the next election amid concerns the party is not landing enough blows on Labour.

Other vacancies have arisen because Julia Lopez shadows a department that no longer exists, energy secretary Claire Coutinho is going on maternity leave, and Helen Grant is stepping down at the next election. Sources named Patel, seen by some as a "fringe figure" and a target for Reform and Labour attacks over immigration during her time as home secretary, and Stride, who others argue has performed well, as the two biggest names in question. Possible replacements include Andrew Griffith or Chris Philp, while Andrew Bowie could become shadow energy secretary, Harriet Cross shadow Scottish secretary, and rising figures Katie Lam, Jack Rankin and Robbie Moore are tipped for roles, with changes expected to be announced on Tuesday.
