Two members of Massive Attack have been banned from Singapore and given a “stern warning” after displaying a Palestinian flag and leading “Free Palestine” chants during the band’s 29 July concert at the Star Theatre. Singaporean police and the Infocomm Media Development Authority said the incident was being investigated as possible breaches of laws governing foreign national emblems and public order, highlighting the country’s strict restrictions on political expression by visiting performers.

The authorities did not name the members, though concert footage reportedly suggests they were founding members Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall. The alleged offences can carry a fine of up to S$5,000 and/or six months’ imprisonment; Massive Attack has previously supported Palestinian causes, including fundraising for Gaza and public criticism of Israel’s military campaign and British policy.
