Country singer Willi Carlisle has recruited Tyler Childers as producer for his forthcoming album "The Universal Bubba," marking a departure from Childers' usual role as a performer. The pairing has generated significant buzz in country and Americana circles, with Carlisle describing the record as his most eclectic work yet, spanning funk, Cajun, old-time and experimental influences.

The 17-track double album is due for release on 6 November and was recorded with Childers' backing band, The Food Stamps, at a makeshift studio built specifically for the sessions in New Orleans. It will be available on CD and vinyl, including signed editions, and follows the release of lead single "The Mason Jar at the Center of the World." Carlisle has said he wants the record to serve as "universal folk music," reflecting his belief that everyone deserves folk songs of their own.
