Uber driver accused of fatally striking customer after car was soiled
A court has heard that Uber driver Hayadulla Turkmani deliberately drove into customer Michael Ashton after Ashton was sick in the car, then tried to drive away. The incident happened in Basildon, Essex, shortly before midnight last year, after Ashton and his partner returned from an evening out. They went inside to fetch wipes and cleaned a small amount of sick, but prosecutors say Turkmani continued shouting and drove into Ashton despite his pleas to stop. Ashton suffered fatal head injuries and died in hospital on 4 October; the trial is expected to last three weeks.
