Ubisoft has apologised after releasing Heroes of Might and Magic III on Steam without the game files, leaving buyers unable to play it. The error quickly prompted negative reviews and undermined a promotional release intended to build interest in a planned remake of the 1999 strategy game.

The $10 download was only 23.4KB and showed an error when launched, but Ubisoft says it has now replaced the incorrect package and the game works. The release includes the original game and its three expansions, while Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is planned for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with updated visuals and new tools.
