Ubisoft is reportedly developing another Far Cry title, codenamed Kodiak, alongside the already-known Far Cry 7 (codenamed Blackbird), according to an Insider Gaming report. Kodiak is being made at Vantage Studios, a new subsidiary set up by Ubisoft and Tencent to oversee the publisher's biggest franchises, and unlike Blackbird, it reportedly hasn't suffered the development troubles that have plagued the series' return. This matters because Far Cry has been dormant for years despite multiple projects reportedly being worked on behind the scenes, so a title progressing smoothly would mark a notable change for the franchise.

Kodiak is described as an open-world first-person shooter emphasising player interactions and player-driven stories. Blackbird, the mainline Far Cry 7, is said to have recovered from earlier setbacks and is now on track as a single-player game with a possible multiplayer or co-op element; Vantage co-CEO Charlie Guillemot reportedly called it "honestly impressive" and envisions it as the first in a series of games. Neither title has been officially announced, and no release windows have been given, though Blackbird is believed to be furthest along. The most recent mainline entry, Far Cry 6, launched in 2021 and will turn five this October.
