Uganda Soccer Star Killed In Attack Near His Home

HuffPost · 2 weeks ago

Uganda international footballer and SC Villa captain David Owori has died after an attack near his home in Kampala. His death has prompted calls for those responsible to be caught and renewed concern over security in the city, particularly after another Ugandan international athlete was killed there two months earlier.

Police said unidentified attackers critically injured the 27-year-old in Makindye on Tuesday night, reportedly striking him with paving stones and stealing his phone and belongings; he died in hospital on Wednesday. Owori, known as “Colgate”, had led SC Villa to the 2024 Uganda Premier League title—its first in 20 years—and represented Uganda in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers; parliament held a minute’s silence in his memory.
