UK grooming gang member’s dad ‘offered gift to victim, 13, to get her to drop case’
Ahmad Alaboud and Abdullah Kalzli were jailed after offering a teenage victim money and a gift to withdraw evidence against Alaboud’s son, a convicted member of a grooming gang. The case matters because their repeated approaches to the victim, years after the abuse, reopened her trauma and led to convictions for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The victim was 13 when she was abused; the gang’s four members were jailed in 2024 for sexual offences against girls in Newcastle. In a recorded call, Alaboud and Kalzli said they would give her “whatever” she wanted, while citing his son’s cancer history and fears it had returned. Alaboud received 10 months in prison and Kalzli nine months; the son was jailed for five and a half years.
In short
- A victim was offered money to withdraw evidence.
- Two men were jailed for trying to influence her.
- The contact brought back trauma from earlier abuse.
