Ukrainian Alla Didur receives 2026 News Fixer Award, presented by Kurt Schork foundation
Ukrainian fixer Alla Didur has received the 2026 News Fixer Award from the Kurt Schork Memorial Fund for helping international journalists report from Ukraine. The award recognises the local knowledge and behind-the-scenes work that enable foreign correspondents to cover difficult and dangerous locations.
Didur, who is from Odesa, has worked with international media since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022. The award cited her contributions to three articles about Russian attacks, drone warfare and Ukraine’s railway defences, as well as her judgement, organisation and care for journalists’ safety. The fund also named French journalists Paul Boyer and Pierre Terraz as the freelance award winners, and Nigerian journalist Abdullah Tijani as the local reporter winner.
In short
- Alla Didur wins the 2026 News Fixer Award.
- She has supported international reporting in Ukraine since 2022.
- The judges praised her judgement, organisation and care for safety.
Explained simply
A fixer helps visiting journalists work in a place they may not know well. They can arrange interviews and travel, explain local context and help teams assess risks; their work often appears behind the scenes rather than under their own bylines.
The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund gives awards recognising freelance journalists, local reporters and fixers. Its awards draw attention to the different roles involved in reporting from conflict zones, where access, reliable information and safety can be difficult to manage.
