Zelensky adviser says unreliable US warnings have cost Ukrainian lives

BBC World ·

A senior adviser to Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukrainians have died because US warnings about incoming Russian ballistic missile attacks have been unreliable, sometimes arriving only a minute before impact. The claims raise concerns about the effect of intelligence and communications disruptions on civilian warnings and Ukraine’s defences, though the White House says intelligence sharing has not changed.

Zelensky said intelligence sharing had resumed after a three-day pause, but adviser Serhii Beskrestnov described the air-raid alert information as incomplete and inconsistent. He also said restrictions on Starlink and its military service Starshield were continuing: a 100mph speed limit on connected mobile units has constrained some drone operations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied there had been a pause, while Beskrestnov said Ukraine was exploring alternative communications systems.
