Anthony Brooks, a 33-year-old registered sex offender studying an honours course at the University of Melbourne, has been charged with a raft of new offences including rape and procuring sex by fraud. He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court seeking to vary his bail so he could travel to New South Wales for two months of mental health treatment, despite police revealing he is the subject of four separate ongoing investigations and has allegedly already breached his bail conditions.

The new charges follow earlier allegations, first reported by the Daily Mail in June, that Brooks possessed and transmitted child abuse material involving very young children at a Docklands address between 2023 and 2024. He is also accused of stalking and menacing a complainant using multiple fake personas and devices, sending threatening messages, and breaching his sex offender reporting conditions. Police told the court Brooks has an undisclosed prior for sexual offending against a teenage boy in Sydney, had breached bail by accessing social media and dating apps, and was recently interviewed about two further separate complainants, raising concerns he could not be safely monitored if allowed to move interstate.
