Urban Meyer joins Dan Dakich, gushes about new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall: ‘I love that guy’

Urban Meyer has praised new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall, saying he quickly backed his appointment after vetting him during the coaching search. Meyer, a two-time national champion with the Gators, said Sumrall’s enthusiasm for the game and care for his players have impressed him.

Sumrall, 43, has started his tenure with wins over top-10 teams Ole Miss and Texas, seven games into his time at Florida. Meyer also admired Sumrall’s demanding approach, his focus on team culture and the role of strength coach Rusty Whitt, while noting it is still early in the season.
