A US court has ordered James Williams, known online as “Archbox”, to pay Nintendo £3.4 million after he failed to respond to a lawsuit alleging that he helped facilitate Nintendo Switch piracy. The judgment highlights Nintendo’s continuing efforts to pursue individuals and services linked to the distribution of pirated Switch games.

Nintendo sought the maximum statutory damages of $150,000 for each of 30 allegedly pirated games, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The judge also issued a permanent injunction preventing Williams from distributing or encouraging the distribution of any pirated Nintendo games, while noting that Nintendo had not separately claimed DMCA damages or legal fees.
