US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following three hours of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The visit, the first by Donald Trump's top negotiators to Ukraine's capital, comes as efforts to end the war gather pace, with an announcement on "next steps" expected within weeks, though the details of any emerging plan remain unclear.

Saturday's talks in Moscow were described by both sides in broadly positive terms, with Putin adviser Yuri Ushakov calling them "constructive, extremely frank" and noting discussion of economic issues and joint US-Russian projects alongside the conflict itself. Putin and Zelensky have separately agreed to a three-day halt on strikes against each other's capitals. Russia still controls roughly a fifth of Ukrainian territory seized since its 2022 invasion, and fighting has recently intensified, with Russian missile and drone attacks continuing on Ukrainian cities and Kyiv focusing strikes on Russian oil infrastructure.
