American golfer Matt Gogel has received a six-month PGA Tour suspension after betting on golf tournaments, despite not wagering on events in which he was playing. The case underlines the tour’s strict rules on gambling, which are intended to protect confidence in the sport’s integrity.

Gogel, 55, said the bets were small recreational wagers placed in 2024 and 2025, and that he had unknowingly breached policy. The PGA Tour Champions player, currently 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, is banned from 23 August until 22 February and expects to return in 2027; he has earned more than $760,000 on the Champions circuit.
