An American visitor has tattooed the logo of Sheffield’s Tramlines festival on his wrist after repeatedly attending the event with a friend he met in New York. Chad Hefty said the festival and the community around it had become personally significant, while his Sheffield friend Mark Morgan described Tramlines as an important part of the city’s identity.

Hefty, 46, from Charlotte, North Carolina, has visited Sheffield for milestones including Morgan’s wedding and several recent Tramlines festivals since they met in Times Square about a decade ago. He also has a Sheffield-themed tattoo on his leg, and plans to attend this weekend’s three-day festival at Hillsborough Park, featuring acts including Fatboy Slim, Blossoms, Wolf Alice, The Courteeners and Wet Leg.
