US midterm voting goes smoothly with only a handful of issues nationwide
Voting in the US midterm elections proceeded relatively smoothly nationwide, despite scattered problems at polling places. The issues were limited in scale as tens of millions cast ballots, with control of Congress at stake.
The largest disruption was in Westchester County, New York, where machines could not scan ballots at 332 polling locations, affecting as many as 250,000 ballots; voters could use sealed emergency ballot bags for later counting. Other problems included a Kansas polling place ordering 100 ballots instead of 100,000, scanner malfunctions in Georgia, and technical or access issues in several states. North Carolina considered extending voting by four hours in affected counties and delayed election results by an hour.
In short
- US midterm voting was mostly smooth despite local disruptions.
- Westchester machines could not scan ballots at 332 locations.
- Emergency ballots and bins were used for later counting.
