US Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin have opened an investigation into Roblox’s child-safety practices, alleging that the platform may have put revenue and user engagement ahead of children’s wellbeing. The inquiry increases congressional pressure on a major online gaming and social platform used by young people, amid wider concern over online grooming and exploitation.

The senators have asked Roblox chief executive David Baszucki to provide documents explaining how the company protects child users. Their letter cites alleged cases involving adults grooming and kidnapping children through the platform, while Roblox’s chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, said safety is foundational to the company and that it would share information on its protections.
