The case for
A radio announcer should be able to give an immediate interpretation of a fast, chaotic play, and a mistaken first call need not imply deliberate bias. On this view, the more serious criticism is that Arbogast persisted after colleagues challenged his account and replay appeared to contradict it, undermining listeners’ trust in the broadcast.
The case against
The account describes more than an understandable split-second error: Arbogast maintained that Moore ran into Stephens despite contrary replay evidence, then minimised the slide and dismissed the hit as non-targetable. A reasonable critic would say that this defensive insistence, especially during a serious injury, fell short of the accuracy and impartiality expected of a broadcaster.
