The speculation began after his 7 August performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with fans circulating videos online and insisting the performer looked noticeably different from the singer they knew.

Responding via a video posted to the tour's official Instagram account, Usher joked about the theories, writing "Ya'll are funny…clone? They can't clone this??" and adding that "AI ain't that advanced." No one seriously suggested literal cloning, but many fans believed he had hired a body double to perform in his place. The tour with Chris Brown continues until 12 December at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, and follows Usher's most recent solo tour in 2024 for his album Coming Home.
