A Utah family has suffered another tragedy after their daughter Jocelyn died in hospital, shortly after her brother Brandon survived being shot in the neck by teenagers targeting his younger brother. Jocelyn, who doctors initially expected to die soon after birth, lived to celebrate her fourth birthday despite severe medical needs and round-the-clock care.

Her mother said a nurse sent a text reading “Help”, prompting the family to rush to the hospital, where CPR was unsuccessful. Jocelyn had a tracheostomy and spinal infection, while Brandon continues to face serious disabilities after the shooting; a memorial service was held and a fundraiser launched to help with funeral and medical costs.
