Explained simply
The WNBA is the top professional women’s basketball league in the United States. Its teams compete in a regular season and then the play-offs, with the finalists meeting in a best-of-seven series: the first team to win four games takes the title.
The Golden State Valkyries are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, while the Atlanta Dream represent Atlanta. A Game Seven is the deciding match when the teams have each won three games, so it is the first chance in a WNBA Finals series for either side to settle the title in a single final game.
