Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition’s controversial changes aren’t being well-received

Polygon · 3 hours ago

White Wolf has announced Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition, or V6, but the proposed overhaul has prompted a negative response from many long-term players. The reaction matters because the game has an established fan base and the changes are seen by some as moving its distinctive systems closer to mainstream tabletop role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons.

V6 combines vitae and willpower into one health resource, introduces metacurrencies for players and storytellers, gives greater emphasis to the Beast and Humanity systems, and streamlines other rules. Critics on Reddit have objected to features including combat reactions, a Drama metacurrency for game masters and the lack of compatibility with V5; however, the game is now being playtested at Gen Con and through materials on Demiplane, allowing feedback before release.

  • V6’s rule changes have angered many Vampire fans.
  • Critics fear it resembles mainstream RPG systems too closely.
  • White Wolf is gathering playtest feedback before release.
