Digital Foundry has published a technical analysis of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which Nintendo has just released digitally, giving the Monolith Soft RPG the performance overhaul long requested by fans since the original was widely regarded as the series' weakest visual and technical performer on the base Switch. The analysis finds it a solid upgrade overall, with meaningful improvements to both resolution and frame rate that finally bring the game up to a more acceptable standard.

In docked mode the game now renders at a 720p internal resolution boosted via temporal upscaling, producing sharper edges though with some texture softness, while handheld mode runs at roughly 468p, a major improvement on the original's 368p. Frame rate now reaches 60fps in both modes with only occasional dips, and other tweaks include denser grass, improved depth-of-field, and better lighting. The physical edition follows on 1st October 2026, ahead of Xenoblade Chronicles 3's Switch 2 Edition launching digitally and physically on 3rd December.
