Aston Villa have confirmed the signings of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma and left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid, strengthening two key positions ahead of the new Premier League season. The move comes despite the collapse of Emi Martinez's proposed transfer to Juventus, leaving the Argentine World Cup winner's future at the club uncertain, while Villa view the 23-year-old Suzuki as their long-term first-choice goalkeeper for years to come.

Suzuki, a Japan international, joins for a fee of around £30m after two seasons at Parma, where he made 59 appearances. Ruggeri, a 24-year-old Italian defender and 2024 Europa League winner with Atalanta, arrives for £17m to replace Lucas Digne, who left for Paris St-Germain earlier this month. Both new signings could make their Villa debuts in Sunday's Premier League opener away at Brighton.
