Country star Vince Gill paid tribute to Buck Owens and Merle Haggard during a marathon three-and-a-half-hour concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, drawing on his 2013 covers album Bakersfield. The show, part of Gill's six-night residency at the historic venue, saw him revisit the record he made with steel guitarist Paul Franklin, which paid homage to the two Bakersfield sound pioneers who shaped his own musical style.

On the album's third night, Gill performed Haggard's "The Bottle Let Me Down" before turning to his favourite Owens song, "Together Again", originally released in 1964. The album also featured covers of other Owens tracks including "Foolin' Around" and "Nobody's Fool But Yours". Beyond the tributes, Gill played career highlights, 1980s classics and songs from his ongoing 50 Years From Home project, interspersing the music with anecdotes about friends such as George Jones and Emmylou Harris, before a rapturous crowd brought him back for a three-song encore.
