Violent Night 2 director reveals a disturbing scene inspired by horror master Sam Raimi

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Director Tommy Wirkola has previewed Violent Night 2, the sequel to the 2022 action comedy in which David Harbour plays a foul-mouthed, murderous Santa Claus. Speaking to Polygon, Wirkola and producer Kelly McCormick revealed that the new film sees Santa taking the wrong lessons from his first outing, becoming so obsessed with punishing the "naughty" that he himself ends up on the naughty list and loses his powers, leaving him stranded in a shopping mall run by a mob boss played by Jared Harris.

The interview also touched on a gory cookie-cutter kill sequence that McCormick called "a stroke of genius", with Wirkola confirming the extended fight scene pays tribute to horror director Sam Raimi. Kristen Bell joins the cast as Mrs Claus, and the sequel promises further glimpses of Santa's backstory as a Viking warrior, though not all questions will be answered, leaving room for a possible third film. Violent Night 2 is set for release in cinemas on 4 December 2026.
