‘Violent Night 2’ Producer Recalls Mrs. Claus Was Almost Introduced In First Movie, Would Have Been “Totally Different” From Kristen Bell

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Kelly McCormick, producer of the "Violent Night" franchise, has revealed that Mrs. Claus was almost written into the original 2022 film but was ultimately cut, meaning the character introduced by Kristen Bell in the upcoming sequel is an entirely different creation. Speaking ahead of Violent Night 2's December release, McCormick explained that the production team overthought the decision so much that they never made a formal offer for the role first time round, sparing the character from being tied to a version that would have shaped the new film very differently.

McCormick, who produces alongside husband David Leitch at 87North, said Bell's casting came about through the actress's long-standing friendship with star David Harbour, and praised her performance as bringing warmth and action to the role in equal measure. Violent Night 2, directed by Tommy Wirkola, sees Harbour's Santa stripped of his magic and fighting to reclaim his place on the Nice List while battling a mobster threatening a shopping mall; the film is set for release on 4 December.

  • Mrs. Claus was almost added to the first "Violent Night" film in 2022.
  • Producers scrapped the idea, so Kristen Bell's role is new.
  • "Violent Night 2" premieres 4 December 2026.
