Violet Grohl Covers The Cure for Triple J’s Like a Version
Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, performed a stripped-down acoustic cover of The Cure's 1992 single "High" for Australian radio station Triple J's Like a Version series. She told Triple J she has loved the song since discovering The Cure as a young teenager via "Friday I'm in Love", and wanted her rendition to evoke a "teenage crush kind of feeling" while paying respect to frontman Robert Smith. She also performed her own track "595" from her debut album in the same session.
The cover coincides with Grohl's debut album, Be Sweet to Me, released 29 May via Auroura and Republic Records and shaped by late-80s and early-90s alternative rock acts including The Cure, Cocteau Twins, the Pixies, Soundgarden and the Breeders. Grohl has long featured in her father's musical circle, contributing backing vocals to Foo Fighters albums and joining a 2025 Nirvana reunion set, before her own chart debut this year with "THUM" reaching No. 38 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. She has a run of US festival dates this autumn, including Riot Fest and Shaky Knees, ahead of a headline US tour and European support slot with Beabadoobee.
