VOIVOD’s AWAY On Long-Awaited ‘We Are Connected’ Documentary: ‘Right Now We Are Aiming For A Christmas Release’

Blabbermouth · 4 hours ago

VOIVOD drummer and founding member Michel "Away" Langevin has said the band's official documentary, "We Are Connected", is now being targeted for a Christmas 2026 release. The film, which premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal in July 2024, has faced a prolonged delay in reaching wider audiences, primarily because of the complexity of clearing music rights across numerous publishing companies the band has worked with over its long career.

Langevin said the rights issues have finally been resolved, with separate versions of the documentary now planned for festivals, Blu-ray and streaming platforms. Directed by Felipe Belalcazar, who previously made the Chuck Schuldiner documentary "Death By Metal", the film traces VOIVOD's 40-plus-year history from their origins in Jonquière, Quebec, through tours with Iron Maiden, Rush and Metallica, and features contributions from figures including Tobias Forge of Ghost, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The project was originally announced with director Sam Dunn in 2006 before it was later handed to Belalcázar; VOIVOD are also due to tour the US in October, with singer Denis "Snake" Bélanger currently sitting out European dates for a family matter, temporarily replaced by Eric Forrest.
