“Volunteer, protest, speak up, speak out.” Tom Morello announces creation of the Mary Morello Memorial Project to continue his late mother’s activism and advocacy for social justice
Musician Tom Morello, best known as the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, has launched the Mary Morello Memorial Project to honour his mother, Mary Morello, who died on 12 July aged 102. The initiative is intended to continue her lifelong activism, extending her advocacy for social justice and peace beyond her death through renewed calls to "volunteer, protest, speak up, speak out."
Announcing the project in a social media statement, Morello and his family invited friends and admirers who were touched by Mary's life to help preserve her legacy of "compassion, courage and service." Donations made through the project will go to organisations that were personally significant to Mary and reflect causes she championed and worked alongside throughout her life.
